SQUEAKY CLEAN: TIPS FOR CLEANING YOUR GLASSES
Have you ever wondered how we can get your glasses so clean when you’re here for your exam? We actually get asked quite a bit by patients for the best way to get those pesky smudges off of their glasses, but honestly, there’s not much to it! We have outlined a few tips and tricks that we always use around here to help you keep those glasses squeaky clean at home, too!
Never use paper products!
When cleaning your glasses, you never want to grab paper towel or really anything as abrasive and especially never anything even more rough than paper. The fibers in paper products can actually cause scratches on your lenses. We’ve also seen the damages that the disposable wipes can do as well. So steer clear of those as well! We recommend a good microfiber cloth for all glasses cleaning.
Never forget the spray!
It is easy to just try to wipe or quickly get that smudge out of your glasses without spray when in a hurry, but beware. The particles that are most likely on your lenses causing them to be dirty and smudgy can cause at the very least minor scratches as soon as you move them on the lens surface. We highly recommend a glasses cleaning spray, preferably one that is approved for use on all lenses including those with anti-glare coatings. The spray will move those particles around more freely in liquid so they don’t scratch your lenses. This is how we get those lenses to be crystal clear as well!
For a deep clean, go ultrasonic!
When you know you are in too deep, let’s say you got sunscreen on those sunnies or who knows what into the crevices of the hinges on the temples, we turn to our ultrasonic cleaner. If you’ve ever heard our staff say that we are deep cleaning your lenses, this is what we mean! Our commercial cleaner can clean multiple glasses at a time, but you can actually find smaller ultrasonic cleaners that will hold just one pair of glasses on Amazon (see link below!). You can use just water or add a cleaning solution safe for glasses and lenses with anti-glare coatings to add a little more clean. You’ll be surprised at how clean your glasses will be after just a few short minutes!
It’s as simple as that! It’s really not rocket science, but we know it can be easy to fall into bad cleaning habits. We’ve all been there! But try to do your best to clean with a microfiber cloth and spray to keep those lenses sharp and help you to see your very best. Need more tips or guidance, stop in to our office so we can help!
