THIS ONE'S FOR ALL THE LADIES
Alright, ladies, anyone else have issues with their makeup causing eye problems? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I’ve always had struggles with mascara sticking to my eyelashes and causing them to hurt. To the point that I would actually just end up pulling out my eyelashes trying to get the mascara off. Ouch! As an eye doctor, I’ve seen patients struggle with dry eyes, allergies, infections, and blepharitis all simply because of makeup they were using. I’ve tried so many different makeups and makeup removers myself, but nothing seemed to work. I recently found a few products that both the girl in me and eye doctor in me could appreciate! I figured, all my trials (and many errors!) should not go to waste, so I wanted to share with you those products that I found to work well for me and also many of my patients. None of these companies are paying me to say these things (I wish!), but instead just my honest opinions and favorite products for beauty as well as eye health.
Eyes Are The Story Mascara
Once I got over the mouthful of a name, the brand quickly became a must-have. It was created in part by eye care professionals, utilizing the science of the eyes and keeping in mind what types of ingredients should not be used for best eye health. They have eye wipes, serums, cleansers, and eyeliner, but what I really love is their mascara trio set. It is designed to be flake-free, not clump, and safe for contact lens wearers. Each set has three small mascaras intended to be replaced after a month of use, so the set is a 3 month supply. I LOVE this idea! It really does minimize bacteria buildup and helps to keep the mascara more comfortable. I honestly can’t feel that I am wearing mascara, whereas other brands cause my lids to feel heavy and uncomfortable. It goes on smoothly and comes off just as easily with makeup removers. It’s a win-win!
Simple Cleansing Wipes
These makeup remover wipes are my all-time favorite! They don’t dry out your skin or leave you even more irritated. They also don’t have any harsh chemicals (their ingredients literally say water, vitamin B, and vitamin E… that’s it!) and can take off the stickiest of mascaras. They definitely came in handy as I was trying all of those icky mascaras before I found Eyes Are The Story! I loved that they put on their packaging that not only are their products dermatologist tested, but also ophthalmologist tested. It’s like they know I am looking for that! They are also available at just about any grocery store or Target, which is also very helpful.
SHADES BY SHAN EYESHADOW
At our makeup demonstration event, back when we were able to have gatherings pre-pandemic, the girls from Planet Beauty introduced us to Shades by Shan. You can learn more about the tips we discovered at this event in our blog here. Our biggest take away was this amazing eyeshadow set. It is incredibly soft to touch, light on the eyes, and comfortable all throughout the day. It doesn’t give that heavy eyelid feeling that is all too common with other brands. The great color combos are just a bonus!
Hopefully this saves you a little time (and money!) in selecting some beauty products that don’t irritate the eyes and eyelashes. If you’ve found some great products that help in this area, we’d love to learn about them. Comment below or message us!
