A VERY SPECTACLE CHRISTMAS PART 3!
As the holiday season is now in full swing, we hope this year feels a little more like Christmas. A little busier, a little more hustle and bustle, and brings that nostalgia of Christmas as a child. It's that time of year that we are all looking forward to that something that makes it feel like Christmas. At Spectacle, we all have vastly different childhood memories and traditions that remind us of that holiday sparkle. In our previous Spectacle Christmas blog as well as part 2 a couple years ago, our staff and doctors came together to give you an insight into what they each think of when December rolls around. Well, we have a couple new staff members again, so we wanted to give each of them an opportunity to share with you just what the joy of Christmas is in their eyes.

“Every year for Christmas Eve my mom, sister, and I would go visit my grandparents house to see my family and celebrate the holiday! One thing that stands out the most when I think of this time of year is all the different foods that my family brings. We have Japanese and Mexican style dishes since I do come from a diverse background, so I always leave my grandparents feeling happy and satisfied. As the night goes on we catch up with all of our family members and open presents by the Christmas tree. I always enjoy spending time at my grandparents and seeing all my aunts, uncles, and cousins!”

“Every year my siblings and I couldn’t wait to open our presents and play with the toys covered in festive wrapping. Our excitement was so infectious, eventually our parents created a new rule: if you could stay up until midnight you can open one present. Every year we would try our luck a little bit earlier, but they remained firm in this rule. Now that we’re all older, the excitement has cooled, but I will always remember the compromises our parents made to ensure we enjoyed our Christmas without spoiling our surprises too much. “

“Growing up in Wyoming, every Christmas was so exciting! I always remember getting in our Christmas pajamas and driving around to look at all the lights while drinking hot chocolate. There was a house in Casper where someone dressed up as Santa and sat in a chair on the sidewalk to hand out candy canes to families driving by. I remember always begging my parents to drive by just so we could see him, and maybe get a candy cane, too! My favorite part of Christmas now is being able to keep this tradition alive with my kids. It feels so good to be able to show them a part of my childhood, even though we don’t get to see the same Santa I did as kid!”

“Now that our daughter, Parker, is two years old, Christmas is pretty much all about her! We are loving watching this season through her eyes, teaching her the true meaning of Christmas, and starting our own Bovy family traditions. As we have mentioned in our previous blog, we love adding one new ornament each year to represent something that happened or it encompasses something about the previous year we want to remember. While we still haven’t figured out just what that may be for 2023, we know that it will be a great addition to our tree once it finds us! In addition to the usual night walks to see the lights, going to our church’s Christmas production, and enjoying all the hot cocoa and holiday treats, we are looking forward to some new things too! This year, Parker started preschool, so there are all sorts of fun events the school is hosting that will be a first for us this year. Every other year, we also get an opportunity to visit Dr. Bovy’s family in Iowa. We were, unfortunately, unable to go a couple years ago with a newborn, so this year will be Parker’s first experience of a Christmas in Iowa. They have a rather large gathering of Bovy’s! She will finally get the opportunity to meet some cousins she hasn’t met, hopefully experience a white Christmas, and partake in a big family gathering Christmas day. We are looking forward to showing Parker an Iowa Christmas this year!”
Stop in and share in this season with us! We’d love to hear those memories or traditions that bring about the holiday cheer for you. From all of us at Spectacle Optometry, we wish you a happy holiday season and a wonderful 2024!
